Day 5 - Great Barrier Reef

--

I was all ready to go on my first dive today at 7 am when the recon patrol came back with the bad news... it is quite a difficult dive only for highly experience divers, which as you can deduce from reading my past adventures it isn´t my case. :-) so I missed the first one but it didn't worry me much because we had the intention of going to "cod hole" today before lunch. Apparently this is the best place for diving in the whole great barrier reef and weather permitting we'll do two dives in there today...

Well, it seems the weather wasn't with us today, despite of having a bright blue sky, there is still quite a lot of wind, so instead of going to "cod hole" we went to "Pixie Pinacle" which was a cool place to dive in,
As you can see from the below picture, blue sky but not exactly a calm day:

Pixie Pinnacle it's like a hill that starts at about 30 meters deep so we went down to about 26 meters or so and then we went around and around the pinacle climbing a few meters every few minutes and by the time we reached the top it was time to get out of the water. The whole pinacle was thriving with life and we got to see some really exotic fish and even a small snake.

Today John, the cook, spoiled us again with a nice mexican menu... and once we were all full we lifted the anchor and headed for another diving spot for the last 2 dives of the day. I'll probably skip the first one so I can go to the second which is a night dive. :-)

The wind picked up again so we went back to Vertical gardens for the night dive...

and what a dive it was! we got to see a huge turtle and the largest sea snake I've ever seen, the best part though is when we were going back to the boat, because of the current and the waves we lost the mouring line so when we emerged to the surface we were quite far from the boat , it was pitch dark and the waves were bouncing us up and down all the time...you could say it was my first time lost in the sea. :-)

Fortunatelly, they were looking for us from the boat and we had our torches to do the sign so the could come to pick us up and after a few minutes of going up and down with the waves they saw us and sent the dingy to pick us all up. Not a bad way to end the day, keepring the adrenaline until the very last minute. :-)
