Cape Tribulation - Day 2

--

The plan for today was to pay a visit to the reef and once there either go diving or snorkling but for one of those things in life, the company running the trips to the reef TODAY started a two week maintenance that they do every year once a year. How unlucky is that!!! It had to be this week! Anyway, there were other alternatives like hiking, visiting the rainforest, horse riding, etc...

So yesterday when we got here and were adviced of this two week maintenance we opted for a hiking trip through some local montain stopping by a nice waterfall and also a swimming spot. Taken from the leaflet:

"...Walk to the Mount Emmett "Fossil Falls". Experience the untouched rainforest that you only get to see in the mountains, learn about native bushtucker and remedies used by the local Kuku Yalanji people. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the Noah Creek 'Drangonhole'..."

Granted it doesn´t sound as good as going to the reef to spend the day but it wasn't bad as an alternative. So last night we made a booking for today and the person at the resort were we are who made the booking said she couldn't get through because there was an answer machine at the other end but left a message so we should be ready tomorrow morning (i.e. today) before 8 am.

So today at 7:30 am I went to reception to make sure the excursion was still on and guess what! The guide had to take a few days off for personal reasons and he was in Melbourne, hence the answer machine. We were offered again all the many and diverse activities we could do...and none appealed to us the slightless and overnight there was a strong storm and it rained quite a lot and it was still raining so we decided to take it easy...wait until the rain stops and maybe go for a walk around the area.

It looks like we've chosen the worst week of the year to come to Cape Tribulation!! Nonetheless the place is quite nice, yesterday we went for a stroll along the beach, today we can walk in the opposite direction and see where it takes us. :-)

Apparently we are in the jellyfish season and this beach is known to have lots so no swimming and even when there was a moment we went through some rocks we were very alert at all times in case we saw something remotely suspicious...you know...tentacle like... we took a few pictures of the nice surrondings and made our way back to the resort in time for lunch.

After lunch we decided to try the swimming pool and I can honestly say I've never tried a warmer water in my life....it was so good we spent more than 2 hours IN THE WATER, outside it was so hot and humid was no point leaving the water. :-)

When our skin got all wrinkly and the sun started to give pass to the night we made our relunctant exit from the best swimming pool ever.
