Cape Tribulation - Day 1

--

I am glad to say that the beating we received yesterday in the river didn't leave many side effects on us today and we could both almost walk normally today, even the pinkish shade on our shoulders didn't turn into anything painful.

We had an easy day in front of us today, at least in theory. We had to be at reception at 7:30 am to check out and get picked up by our guide for today.

This excursion is to go to Cape Tribulation a place described by the literature as "Where the rainforest meets the Reef".

Once the bus arrived we got into it and the driver introduced himself as our guide for the day, then he connected himself to a microphone and started telling us what we were gonna be doing during the day. The trip itself lasts for about 2.5 hours but we would be stopping along the way in several places.

The first stop was for the visit to the "Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary". A glorified zoo. It had 3 sections, one with the birds and koalas, another with the kangoroos and a third one with some toads and crocodiles.

MarĂa! here is your Koala!

And some other native animals

From there we went to Mossman Gorge, there was a nice spot there were we all had the chance to have a good swim in the river...

But as with everything in Australia, it´s not enough to have the most poisonous and nasty animals in the world...it also has some nasty plants.

According to our local guide he got stung by this plant once in a leg and not only it was extremely painful...the pain lasted for over 2 weeks!!!

Then it was time to have lunch and right after lunch and a nice cup of tea, we embarked into a crocodile spotting tour, which essentially is just floating around in a boat going up and down the river until you spot a few crocodiles.

Cape Tribulation is separated from mainland by a river that needs to be crossed by a ferry, so after the ferry crossing we got back to the bus and made our way to Cape Tribulation.

We were dropped off at the "FernTree Rainforest Resort" our accomodation for the next 2 days.
From the outside:

As it was still early we went for a stroll trying to find where the rainforest meets the reef and this is what we found:
