Perth - Day 2

--

One of the many good things about our current accomodation is that "breakfast is included", now...breakfast included in a backpackers accomodation is something very different of what you could expect.

There is no cook waiting for your order (how would you like your omelette sir?, scrambled eggs? crispy bacon?) or waiter waiting by your table to fulfill any of your breakfast desires... no...

THIS IS WHAT BREAKFAST REALLY IS AS A BACKPACKER!!

The big taperwares contain the cerals...and there is also a microwave where you can heat up your milk alongside with a toaster where you can make your toasts just the way you like them. You are given your cuttlery and pottery when you check in so when you finish with your breakfast, you wash it up and take it back to your room until the following day. This was taken quite early in the morning and that's why everything is so tidy...after 8 am good luck finding anything!

After a good breakfast we headed for the train station. The weather was fantastic. 28C so we decided to make our way to the beach to check it out and the only way we know so far to get there is by train. I'm not sure why but the system to get a ticket in this country seems to be quite complicated, in some cases you have machines where you can only use the exact amount otherwise you're screwed, in others you buy it inside from the driver, sometimes you need to validate it inside the bus/train/tram/whatever, other times you don't...it's a complete and utter kaos. Each city has a different system so you always have to ask around to find out how it works in each town.

Anyway, at the train station there had a machine and you could even use bank notes! first time we didn't need the exact amount!

When we got to Cottlesloe (where the beach is), the path to the beach was makred with the following sign

Just like in Saint Jacks way, we pilgrims followed the marks all the way to the beach.

There was an art competition by the beach and the beach itself was quite nice, the art not so much though (with some rare exceptions).

When we got there was about 10 am (remember we've been used to get up at 4-5 am so by 6-7 am we are always up and running already so at 10 am we had already made our way to Cottlesloe. It was full of people, or so we thought. We found the right spot on the beach and settled down there, then I... ahem ...took a refreshing powernap and when I woke up I found myself surronded by lots of people everywhere. Now the beach was absolutely and utterly full.

We both went to have lunch and after lunch AĆda went back to the beach while I went to  a nice park with a nice shade just by the beach, we stayed there until 4pm or so when we decided to return back to Perth and when we were getting to the train station a light started beeping so some of us started running and cross to the other side of the railways while other people didn't react in time to the bizarre beeping. ;-)

Nice and relaxing day all around. Tomorrow we have an early start again and we´ll be on the road yet again. Destiny: Albany and return to Perth, duration: 3 days.

  1. Nice beach, good weather, nice pics of the outback, good company... one can tell you're having a miserable time.

  2. It's so bad that I had no other choice but to prolong my holidays for another 10 days... :-) I'm going to Phuket after Australia...I need to recover from Australia. ;-)
