What a priori looked like a wasted day it turned up to be quite an interesting and unexpected day.
While in one of the Tasmanian excursions I got to talk to a nice German girl living in Melbourne call Vanessa and as we were going to spend some days in Melbourne with no plans I asked her for some recommendations and she suggested going to Brighton to see the beach with the colourfull houses, when I mentioned this to AĆda she knew what colourfull houses she was talking about so today we decided to get the underground there and check them out.
The underground in Melbourne is a bit messy in my opinion and not very straightforward to know what type of ticket you need and which train to get, but after a little bit of asking around we managed to find the information we needed.
And in 15- 20 minutes we got to Brighton beach
The beach has a nice and long bicycle lane
The weather wasn't great, specially after the fantastic weather we had in Tasmania but it wasn't too bad either.
Melbourne city centre is not too far, I suppose that's the reason why this beach is so popular.
We walked to the beach and then by the shore. There were lots of jellyfish dead in the sand and some more not so dead in the water.
The marine biologist always checking the waters
Opposite to the shore there were some vegetation
The funny thing in Australia is that you never know whether this kind of signs is to protect the people from some dangerous indigenous vegetation or to protect the vegetation from the people. :-)
After a long walk by the beach we managed to find the famous beach houses
And we also found the Spanish and Australian beach houses!! Side by side!
It seems they are having some problems with vandalism...and it must be a big problem because the reward is quite substancial!
Along the road there were amazing houses, some really tacky others really nice but all of them clearly very expensive. Not restaurants nor shops around though so as we had a one day ticket for the tube we decided to try our luck on the previous stop, Middle Brighton
Brighton is a very small village and we found lots of shops (high class shops not the cheap and chearful kind though), and among those we found a couple of decent places where to eat and settled for one of them.
We made it back to Melbourne, did some more walking and for dinner we went to an amazing place...not for people on a diet though... :-)''
Max Brenner the chocolate bar
It took us a while to decide for our order but after some tough decissions we managed to choose something from the several highly tempting options, and this is what we ended up with:
Not a bad dinner, eh!. :-)
By the way, have you ever wonder what a chocoholic looks like in a chocolate shop?
Is that complete and utter happiness or what?
On March the 4th we start a new excursion. "Ocean road and Kangaroo island" it will last 6 days so it is likely that, as before, I won't be able to access the internet during that time but again, as always, rest assure you won't miss a thing, once I'm back in a civilized place I'll keep you up to date with all our adventures and missadventures.

Just a little question... what are the painted houses used for???
ReplyDeleteIn the old times...like in the 1920s or so, rich people used to use those houses as changing rooms, and to store their beach gear... nowadays...no idea. I suppose my richness does not reach that far. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Yago,
